Stefan gave me some horseradish plants earlier on this spring so I put them up by the garage. You are supposed to harvest them in the months with R so I was going to wait until September to make horseradish sauce but that month and almost all of October slipped away before I got around to picking and processing it.

I ended up with about 6 cups of chopped horseradish.

For a cup of chopped horseradish I added 1/2 C vinegar, 1 TBSP of sugar, 1/4 tsp of salt, and 1/2 C of sourcream to make it creamy horseradish. And, wow, is it ever strong. You chop up the horseradish in the blender first, turn it off, and then take a spatula and push it down the sides. Do NOT put your face over the top of the blender while you are doing that step because the smell is so strong that it will hurt your senses. :P I haven't felt anything that painful for a while. It would clear you right out if you had a cold but I still do not recommend it as a treatment. LOL!

9 C of creamy horseradish and I have no idea how we are going to use all of it up. LOL! It should keep in the fridge for a while.

BBQ

Graham had us all down for a BBQ at his place. He was planning to have it last week for Canada Day but the weather didn't cooperate.

After sitting in its case for over two years, we pulled the volleyball net out and started to assemble the pieces.

We had a supportive audience. LOL!

It went downhill from here. :P LOL! The wind really came up, the stakes broke when we hammered them in (our volleyball kit was a made in China special), and the poles were not stable. So, we rolled up the net and went in to the house and had ice cream and coffee.

Only a few pictures but I hope to get more when they come back through in a week or so on their way back home. It was so good to see them all. Everyone was here for turkey dinner so we had 23 people in the house. They arrived around 6 PM and then left around 7 the next morning so it was a very short visit. Naomi and Ellie stayed in my room and we talked until around 2 AM. :D Would have loved to talk and visit longer since we didn't have much time but we weren't going to pull an all nighter. :D

One of Erin's feedlot calves.

We called him "milk replacer brains." It (milk replacer) keeps calves alive but we say does funny stuff to them. :P :D After every meal, regardless of the temperature outside, he'd go and suck on the metal gate for several minutes. He's also the only calf I've seen actually look at you with a side glance. Weird!

Dad's black brockle calf, Flopsy. Never seen a calf with ears that stayed like this. He should be someone's puppy dog. LOL!

I just finished making a facebook album of the prayerchat visit and Josh and Pamela's wedding in AR. About time, eh. Here is the link: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=21208&l=75013&id=590246816 Feel free to tag the "untagged." :) Some I don't know if they have a facebook or what their username is.

Who knows, you might even get a recap of my whole trip sometime soon. :)

What size you usually post your pictures at? I've tried enlarging (am up to 700 x 550) and they don't post any bigger when I put them on LJ. What could I change? I use Picture Village-what is your favourite place to store and upload pics?

Erin and I worked on the barn for a little bit a week or two ago and then really went at it yesterday and got it finished. We couldn't have asked for nicer weather...including no wind...that is always a plus in our area! :) A clean barn is almost as nice as a clean room. LOL! :)
